The BMW 518 was part of the E12 range of cars, produced by BMW from 1972 to 1981. It was the first generation of 5 series executive cars. The first cars had in-line 4-cylinder engines, with either a carburettor or fuel-injection. Straight-six-cylinder engines were introduced a year after the launch of the car and by the last years of E12 production, most models used the six-cylinder engine. There was no M5 version of the E12, although the M535i is widely accepted to be the predecessor of the M5. The E12 was replaced by the E28 in 1982 but production continued in SA until 1984, with E28 interiors.This specific car is a 1980 518 with 239000kms on from new.
