The role;
We are recruiting for a Farm Manager with experience in vegetable and poultry farming with ultimate responsibility to oversee farming operations for a peri-urban farm in Gauteng. The ideal candidate should be someone who is results driven, extremely organised and able to work under pressure. The Farm Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities, including crop production, equipment maintenance, and personnel management.
Responsibilities (included but not limited to the following);
• Manage crops through; planning organising and supervising all aspects of crop production, including planting, irrigation, fertilisation (predominantly organic), pest control and harvesting.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm equipment, to ensure optimal performance.
• Develop and manage budgets, monitor expenses and maximise profitability through efficient resource allocation and cost-saving strategies.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, food safety standards and other legal requirements related to farming operations.
• Maintain accurate records of crop yields, expenses and other relevant data to track performance and facilitate decision-making.
• Identify challenges and implement effective solutions to overcome obstacles related to weather, pests, equipment failures, or other factors that may impact farm productivity.
• Recruit, train and supervise farm staff, assigning duties and providing guidance to ensure productivity and adherence to safety protocols.
• Manage overall performance and effectiveness of team.
• Ensure staff members follow company policies and procedure by applying corrective measures according to the company’s code of conduct.
Requirements;
• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences or Diploma in Agriculture from an agricultural college.
• 3-5 years’ proven experience in farm management preferably in vegetable farming environment (Qualified candidates with experience in farming in a Zimbabwean environment are strongly encouraged to apply)
• Strong knowledge of crop production and agricultural practices.
• 2 years’ supervisory or management experience is beneficial.
• Ability to work independently and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in basic computer applications and farm management software.
• Physical strength and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license is essential.
